In radiology, remote reading is becoming more prevalent and accepted, as hospitals and clinics begin to realize the benefits of extending their reading and reporting capabilities, and situations arise that require these extended capabilities. The definition of “remote” has also expanded, evolving to encompass a broad variety of non-traditional contexts. However, the established benefits of the longtime, on-site reading-room model – such as collaboration, communication, and security – must not be compromised when considering a shift to, or increasing the use of remote reading.
