2011-11-29 - Intelerad Promotes Quality with New Full-Featured Peer Review Solution
A peer and image quality-review solution seamlessly embedded into the radiologist reading workflow for hospitals, imaging centers or radiology groups.
Chicago, Illinois - November 29, 2011 - Intelerad® Medical Systems, Intelerad Medical Systems, a leader in medical imaging PACS, RIS and workflow solutions, today announced its new embedded Peer Review solution to be demonstrated at the RSNA annual meeting, from November 27 to December 1st in Chicago, Illinois.
Following the example of the American College of Radiologists (ACR), requests to carry out a peer review are presented to radiologists within their regular reading and reporting workflow. Radiologists are requested to conduct a peer review when they open a prior study case that has been flagged for review, or they have the option to complete it at a later point in time from their peer review worklist. Organizations can set peer review quotas per radiologist that pertain to the specialty and qualifications of the radiologist. Complete with a customizable scoring system, Intelerad Peer Review ensures anonymization for radiologists so that reviews can be completed without bias.
"Intelerad's Peer Review helps organizations significantly raise the bar on quality," said Rick Rubin, Chief Engineering Officer. "Our solution is innovative and full-featured. Review discrepancies can be flagged in the system and notifications are dispatched based on severity to enable quick and effective response. Quality-focused organizations can also conduct benchmarking and other important initiatives for superior imaging and results."
The Intelerad Peer Review scores are accessed through a web portal and the solution can be included with Intelerad's IntelePACS®, InteleOne®, or InteleSuite™ products. Intelerad Peer Review can also be integrated into third-party reading environments.
For increased reporting accuracy and time savings, the information in HL7 fields can now be auto-inserted into report templates, eliminating the need for radiologists to re-dictate information in the final report.
"We continue to focus on workflow automation and improving the personalized experience in order to boost radiologist productivity," said Rick Rubin, Intelerad Chief Engineering Officer. "Our goal is to increase radiologists' reading speed and comfort, enabling enhanced productivity and accuracy."
Demonstrations will take place at RSNA 2011: Intelerad booth #4053 Hall, A.

2011-11-28 - Intelerad Extends Multi-Method Reporting for the Radiology Market
New voice recognition and productivity features include voice-activated commands, auto-insertion of HL7 fields and expanded customization tools
Chicago, Illinois - November 28, 2011 - Intelerad® Medical Systems, a leader in medical imaging PACS, RIS and workflow solutions, today announced new functionality for its Multi-Method Reporting voice recognition module for use with IntelePACS®, InteleOne®, or InteleSuite™. The new features will be demonstrated at the RSNA annual meeting, Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 in Chicago, Illinois.
Embedded in InteleViewer™'s reading and reporting solution, Intelerad®'s Multi-Method Reporting module boosts reading speed and productivity with a powerful voice recognition engine and customizable library of structured report templates.
The enhanced Multi-Method Reporting module offers a flexible new workflow option, enabling radiologists to save in-progress reports for completion later. This "long-term parking" feature retains the draft report in the reading state, allowing the radiologist to move on to other priorities and resume as desired.
Another new productivity feature is the ability to use voice-activated commands and custom-mapped speech microphone buttons, alone or in combination, to call up templates and quickly move through sections of a report. This dramatically improves reporting speed and the user experience.

2011-06-03 - Announcing First Intelerad Multi-Method Reporting Customer Deployments Featuring Embedded Voice Recognition and Structured Report Templates
Radiologists impressed with workflow efficiency gains and M*Modal's Speech Understanding™ technology
Washington, DC - June 03, 2011 - Intelerad® Medical Systems today announced the availability of its Multi-Method Reporting™ module along with the new IntelePACS® 4.3 release, which provides radiologists seamless access to voice recognition in their reporting workflow. Designed to accommodate the way radiologists naturally read and report studies, Intelerad's Multi-Method Reporting blends dictation, voice recognition and structured report templates together in a single, streamlined interface and workflow.
"We have deployed a limited trial release of the new Multi-method Reporting module to a few customers and the feedback has been very positive", said Rick Rubin, Founder and Chief Engineering Officer of Intelerad. "Radiologists are now free to choose how they report each study, depending on the case and personal preference. The result is faster than ever report turnaround times, as well as improved consistency and quality of the report."
M*Modal's Speech Understanding technology adapts to the physician's workflow and speech patterns, rather than the other way around. Combining advanced speech and natural language understanding technologies, M*Modal's platform goes beyond mainstream speech recognition capabilities because the semantic and syntactic meaning of the dictation is recognized, not just the individual words. Physician intent is recognized and the system adapts to virtually all dialects, accents, speaking styles and dictation habits.
"Our initial experience with Intelerad's Multi-Method Reporting has exceeded our expectations: The speech recognition engine has proven adept, and our workflow more efficient and faster," said Dr. Mark Awh, President of Radsource, a longtime IntelePACS customer specializing in musculoskeletal and neurological MRI.
"Intelerad's Multi-Method Reporting technology employs impressively accurate voice recognition and its embedded report structuring module will allow our practice to offer a standardized report to our referring clinicians while dramatically improving our turnaround times," said Dr. Harry Ameredes, President of Carolina Regional Radiology, an InteleOne® customer and full-service radiology practice serving two imaging centers, four hospitals, and over a dozen clinics.

Intelerad Embeds M*Modal Speech Understanding Technology to Accelerate Reporting Tempo
IntelePACS and InteleOne solutions will include voice recognition as part of Intelerad’s new Multi-Method Reporting
Denver, CO and Pittsburgh, PA – November 28, 2010 – Intelerad® Medical Systems and M*Modal today announced a partnership under which M*Modal’s Speech Understanding™ technology is integrated with Intelerad’s Multi-Method Reporting™, to give radiologists seamless access to voice recognition in their reporting workflow. Designed to accommodate the way radiologists naturally read and report studies, Intelerad’s Multi-Method Reporting blends dictation, voice recognition and structured reporting templates together in a single, streamlined interface and workflow.
M*Modal’s Speech Understanding allows radiologists to choose self-completion or transcription-assisted editing of radiology results. The speech recognition adapts to the physician’s workflow and speech patterns, rather than the other way around. Combining advanced speech and natural language processing technologies, M*Modal’s Speech Understanding goes beyond mainstream speech recognition capabilities to transform dictated narrative directly into structured, encoded, shareable data.
"With M*Modal, voice recognition becomes directly accessible from the IntelePACS® and InteleOne™ Reporting Worklist," says Chris Henri, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Intelerad. "Radiologists are now free to choose how they report each study, using voice recognition whenever it suits them, or using digital dictation or a structured report template, depending on the case. The result is faster than ever turnaround times as well as improved consistency and quality of results."
Combined, Intelerad’s InteleOne solution with M*Modal’s Speech Understanding technology take productivity gains to the next level. InteleOne unifies the reading and reporting workflows from disparate facilities, allowing all cases to be reported and aggregated onto a single reading and reporting platform, bringing maximum workflow efficiency to Intelerad customers.
"Intelerad solutions are known for their performance and reliability in the medical imaging industry, both in the U.S. and internationally," said Michael Finke, M*Modal Chief Executive Officer. 2010-11-24 - Intelerad Introduces Multi-Method Reporting to Facilitate Workflow Orchestration and Propel Radiologist Productivity
Denver, Colorado, November 24, 2010 — Intelerad® Medical Systems, a leader in medical imaging PACS and workflow solutions, today announced their new embedded Multi-Method Reporting™ module for their InteleOne™ and IntelePACS® solutions.
Designed to accommodate the way radiologists naturally read and report studies, Intelerad’s Multi-Method Reporting blends dictation, voice recognition and structured reporting together into a single, streamlined workflow. With Intelerad Multi-Method Reporting, radiologists can now switch seamlessly between the different modes of reading, taking advantage of report templates and predefined “normal” reports. When using voice recognition, they can also choose between multiple signing workflows, including self-edit, deferred self-edit, or send to the typist. Multi-Method Reporting brings unprecedented reporting freedom and flexibility to the radiologist, enabling greater productivity as well as ensuring faster turnaround times and results delivery for critical cases.
“Finally radiologists can focus on the clinical findings rather than on the underlying tools. Not only will radiology organizations be able to easily create template libraries based on their specific workflow, but the radiologists themselves will also be given the ability to pick the most appropriate reporting method for every case,” says Chris Henri, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Intelerad. “In addition, the use of template-driven reporting will provide greater consistency and quality in the final reports and promises significant efficiency gains.”
When used in conjunction with Intelerad’s InteleOne, the productivity gains with Multi-Method Reporting are amplified. InteleOne unifies the reading and reporting workflows from disparate systems, allowing all cases to be aggregated through a single image viewer and reporting platform, bringing unprecedented workflow gains to Intelerad customers.
Intelerad will be showcasing Multi-Method Reporting and other key technology advances at the upcoming RSNA event in Chicago starting on November 28, 2010, booth 4849 Hall A.

2010-08-03 - Radiology Practice Goes Digital with Intelerad’s Fully Integrated IntelePACS Solution
Denver, Colorado, August 3, 2010 — Intelerad® Medical Systems, a leader in medical imaging PACS and workflow solutions, today announced that InHealth Imaging, LLC has chosen IntelePACS® as their first filmless PACS system, including the IntelePACS Breast Imaging module.
Based out of Poulsbo and Silverdale, Washington State, InHealth Imaging offers MDCT, DXA, Ultrasound, MRI, Mammography, and Nuclear Medicine services to the North Kitsap County, Jefferson County and Bainbridge Island communities.
When storage space for film became an issue, coupled with the high expenditure of carrier delivery services and not meeting the new standards in turnaround times, InHealth Imaging quickly realized that they needed a digital PACS solution.
“We wanted to stay competitive and improve our service to both our patients and referring physicians,” said Dr. Manfred Henne, managing member and founder of InHealth Imaging. “Our research into the various PACS solutions currently available confirmed just how complete and easy-to-use IntelePACS truly is. The added benefit of being able to offer breast imaging services from a single integrated system, which also provides access to referring physicians, made this a clear choice. We can now participate in the state screening program and our patients get their results before they even leave the clinic.”
With its integrated viewer and universal worklist, Intelerad’s IntelePACS streamlines the radiology workflow and provides significant productivity gains. “With IntelePACS, InHealth Imaging can focus on their goal to provide a high quality service to referring physicians and provide personalized care to their patients,” said Chris Henri, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Intelerad Medical Systems.

2010-07-20 - IntelePACS Breast Imaging is the Means to Superior Screening in Alberta
Montreal, Canada, July 20, 2010 — Intelerad® Medical Systems, a leader in medical imaging PACS and workflow solutions, today announced that Insight Medical Imaging (IMI) is using the IntelePACS® Breast Imaging solution for its screening and diagnostic mammography studies.
Insight is a group practice of over 20 radiologists reading almost three hundred thousand studies yearly. It offers services for X-ray, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, MRI, fluoroscopy, CT, and mammography at thirteen clinics in Edmonton and the surrounding area. An accredited member of the Canadian Association of Radiologists, Insight participates in the Alberta Breast Screening Program and delivers screening results to referring physicians through the NetCare Provincial Repository.
Insight looked into different options for their software solution when the decision was made to purchase eleven digital mammography units. They could have used the equipment manufacturer’s software, but the cost for multiple dedicated workstations and the inconvenience of having to read from different viewers were major obstacles. Contrary to this, with its enterprise-wide licensing model, Intelerad IntelePACS Breast Imaging is used by as many radiologists as needed and provides secure access to multi-modality images.
“Our radiologists have been using IntelePACS for several years now, so it was natural to turn to Intelerad for our breast imaging solution,” said Dr. Roger Holub, radiologist at Insight. “IntelePACS Breast Imaging allows us to work from the same interface for all studies and priors, including mammography. We achieve significant efficiency gains with the ability to provide final results as soon as we get the studies. Now we have the capability to offer a better service to referring physicians and patients with same day results for all digital exams.”
“We truly appreciate working with Insight, and we are confident that the addition of IntelePACS Breast Imaging will help deliver better quality care for the Alberta Breast Screening Program and women’s health.” said Chris Henri, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Intelerad Medical Systems.

2010-06-29 - Intelerad Expands its 3D Advanced Visualization Offering with Native Integration of Fovia’s High Definition Volume Rendering
Intelerad IntelePACS and InteleOne solutions will embed high-performance, enterprise-wide volumetric rendering for local and remote reading of medical images
Denver, Colorado June 29, 2010 — Intelerad® Medical Systems, a recognized leader in medical imaging PACS and workflow solutions, today announced a strategic technology partnership with Fovia, Inc. to provide integrated High-Definition Volume Rendering® (HDVR®) for its flagship IntelePACS® and InteleOne™ software solutions.
Advanced 3D visualization is a critical component of medical care and is essential in clinical diagnosis and surgical planning. With the increasing amount of data acquired by modern modalities and the growing practice of teleradiology, it has become almost impossible for radiologists to view and interpret thousands of images without the support of advanced 3D visualization, especially over low-bandwidth wide area networks.
Fovia’s HDVR software offers fast and interactive CPU-based real-time rendering of extremely large data sets in 3D. “Not only is Fovia HDVR hardware-agnostic while working purely with off-the-shelf CPUs, it also enables remote image distribution and is highly scalable,” says Chris Henri, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Intelerad. “By embedding Fovia’s engine, Intelerad will provide a fully-interactive volume visualization system, with no compromises in speed, quality, or usability.”
Intelerad will be providing Fovia’s HDVR technology as a native tool within IntelePACS and InteleOne. “Intelerad focuses on streamlining radiology workflow and providing the best integrated user experience for radiologists,” says Ken Fineman, Chief Executive Officer of Fovia. “With native integration of HDVR, Intelerad’s customers will be able to master how they use their reading and reporting software through a single interface, including the world’s most advanced visualization tools.”
Intelerad and Fovia’s strategic partnership will give users the ability to make better decisions through effective utilization of imaging data. HDVR overcomes current imaging limitations by allowing fast visualization and analysis of large amounts of data and its seamless distribution to users in different locations.

InteleOne’s distributed architecture will provide true interoperability between the different sites’ PACS and RIS systems, with a fault-tolerant, fully-replicated and always-on IT infrastructure. Automatic load-balancing and high-speed streaming will optimize network bandwidth, while providing CRR radiologists with instantaneous and transparent access to medical information and images, including pre-fetched priors, regardless of where the radiologists are located.
“We want a proven solution that will deliver the flexibility and assurance needed for our growth, without business interruption as we add new sites. As well, we can increase efficiencies by balancing workloads, and achieve faster report turnaround time without compromising the quality of patient care,” said Bruce Distell MD, President of Carolina Regional Radiology PA. “Intelerad will allow us to remain on the leading-edge of new technology in the field of radiology”.
“CRR is an established radiology group servicing busy facilities around the clock. They will benefit from a unified workflow from image acquisition, through dictation to delivery of final reports. Embedded digital dictation, multi-modality customized viewing, and integrated mammography are just a few of the advanced features available to CRR radiologists,” said Chris Henri, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Intelerad Medical Systems. “We are enthusiastic to work with CRR, and are confident that InteleOne will let them take their practice to the next level.”

2009-08-19 - Intelerad Receives FDA Clearance for its PET/CT Image Fusion Module
Montreal, Quebec, August 19, 2009 — Intelerad Medical Systems, an industry-leading PACS solution vendor, is pleased to announce it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market and distribute its PET/CT Image Fusion product. This 510(k) clearance ensures that the PET/CT Image Fusion functionality can now be sold as a fully integrated module within Intelerad’s signature IntelePACS solution. The efficiency gains for users from having a fully integrated solution compared to a stand alone workstation will be substantial.
“Intelerad is vigilant about maintaining high quality solutions that ensure interoperability with industry standards. For our PET/CT Image Fusion module, we followed the same stringent quality guidelines that are applied to all of our products. A thorough verification and validation cycle was conducted with validation received from actual users,” explains Anibal Jodorcovsky, Intelerad’s Executive Vice President of Quality Systems.
The PET/CT Image Fusion module is integrated within the InteleViewerTM viewing software, which gives radiologists the flexibility of viewing fused images from any IntelePACS® workstation and eliminates the need for expensive, dedicated PET/CT or SPEC/CT systems. With state-of-the-art fusion and advanced visualization technology, clinicians can view images using variable opacity, independent color maps, multiplanar Reformatting (MPR), and Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP). They also have access to specific PET/CT statistics such as Standard Uptake Values (SUVs) and volume measurements.
IntelePACS® customers, such as West Michigan Cancer Center (WMCC), rely on Intelerad’s expertise with workflow optimizing capabilities like PET/CT Image Fusion. “IntelePACS’ Image Fusion module is an exciting new enhancement to WMCC’s technology array. We have acquired a solution that will grow with us as more imaging modalities become available in the future. In addition, the freedom to provide this technology in many forms and varying locations makes it a great tool not only for our internal physicians but also for our patients’ primary care physicians says Mike Fusko, CIO of WMCC. The PET/CT Image Fusion module provides WMCC with universal access to image fusion throughout their enterprise.

2009-08-04 - Pursuit of Best Practices in Radiology Drives Intelerad’s New Quality Features
The latest version of IntelePACS supports radiologists’ efforts to meet accreditation standards.
Montreal, Quebec, August 4, 2009 — Intelerad Medical Systems, an industry-leading PACS solution vendor, announces the availability of its IntelePACS® quality suite. The fully integrated quality modules were developed as a direct response to the requirements of Intelerad’s clients to improve best practice standards in patient care.Implementing the latest quality improvement measures is one of the steps radiologists are taking to receive accreditation from bodies such as The Joint Commission, formerly (JCAHO), a well known healthcare accreditation group in the USA. Such accreditation is becoming increasingly important with the numerous challenges in today’s healthcare environment. Meeting specified quality standards demonstrates a commitment to quality patient care, helps improve risk management and reduction efforts, and provides a competitive edge in the marketplace.
The new IntelePACS modules address quality improvement requirements in three ways:
Critical Results Management – Facilitates timely communication of critical findings between radiologists and referring physicians. Critical results are delivered faster and all events are tracked, providing a communication audit trail. The critical results notification process is improved, which results in better patient care and increased efficiencies.
Peer Review – Supports the requirement for the ongoing practice-based evaluation of radiologists’ performance. Geared toward measuring diagnostic accuracy, Peer Review allows a radiologist to comment on a peer’s interpretation and state their level of accordance. By embedding the peer review process in the diagnostic workflow, more reviews can be documented in a shorter amount of time.Image Quality Review (IQR) – Allows a radiologist to review and comment on the quality of images acquired by a technologist. Seamlessly integrated with the IntelePACS workflow, IQR provides a streamlined method of providing feedback to technologists. The resulting improvement in image quality reduces the need to re-image the patient.
Because the modules are integrated with the IntelePACS solution, radiology practices also benefit from significant cost savings as they no longer need to invest in costly stand-alone applications to meet their quality requirements.
“Intelerad is committed to developing quality management tools that support performance improvement in radiology. With each new IntelePACS feature, we bring our customers closer to reaching their patient safety and clinical productivity goals,” explains Randall Oka, Intelerad President.
Intelerad will be present August 9-13 at AHRA 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada (booth #560) to discuss IntelePACS integrated Quality suite and the benefits of these features for radiology practices.

2009-07-10 - Intelerad Delivers Universal Workflow Solution to Diversified Radiology of Colorado, P.C.
InteleOne allows Diversified Radiology of Colorado to recognize efficiency gains by unifying the workflow in its multi-facility, multi-PACS network.
Montreal, Quebec, July 10, 2009 — Intelerad Medical Systems, an industry-leading PACS solution vendor, announced the installation of its InteleOne solution at Diversified Radiology of Colorado (DRC). InteleOne consolidates image and patient data from multiple PACS and RIS systems into a streamlined, single workflow solution.
Prior to InteleOne™, radiologists at DRC read from over a dozen different PACS. With the introduction of InteleOne, they now have the ability to use a single worklist and viewer to report for all of the sites in their network. The initial phase of the InteleOne implementation unifies the worklists of five DRC imaging facilities: St. Vincent General Hospital, Vail-Summit Orthopaedics in Edwards, Vail-Summit Orthopaedics in Frisco, Durango Orthopedics, and Rocky Mountain Cancer Center (RMCC).
With RMCC, DRC has the added ability to receive DICOM images and HL7 orders, automatically pre-fetch prior studies and seamlessly distribute HL7 reports into RMCC’s RIS. This additional functionality increases report turnaround time by eliminating the need for transmission via traditional methods such as fax and scans. The result is a more streamlined process for DRC and RMCC.
“InteleOne has solved the multiple PACS problem for our organization. We are very pleased with the results of the initial phase of integration with InteleOne and have seen significant improvement in our workflows as well as report turnaround time. We are excited about the possibilities InteleOne has created and look forward to integrating with our remaining affiliates in future phases. Intelerad’s people made it their mission to address integration issues and remove workflow obstacles by identifying our needs and anticipating our long term goals,” explains Christopher Cecil, IT Director at Diversified Radiology.
“We are very pleased to deliver a truly universal workflow solution to radiology groups such as Diversified Radiology who read from multiple PACS. Intelerad is dedicated to creating solutions that help our clients achieve their patient care and business goals,” explains Randall Oka, Intelerad President.

2009-06-01 - Intelerad to preview new IntelePACS features at SIIM
Montreal, Quebec, June 1, 2009—Intelerad Medical Systems will preview several new IntelePACS® enhancements during the exhibits portion of the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM).
The new IntelePACS® features that will be demonstrated at SIIM are:
Critical Results Management facilitates timely communication of critical findings between radiologists and referring physicians. Radiologists can bypass the standard dictation or transcription processes and communicate directly with the referring physician. An audit trail is provided for all communications and the delivery of results.
Peer Review allows a radiologist to review an interpretation made by a peer. Peer Review is easy to use because it is embedded in the IntelePACS® workflow. All information can be stored in a database and used to generate reports for performance evaluations and other analysis.
Image Quality Review (IQR) allows a radiologist to review the quality of images produced by a radiology technician. Similar to Peer Review, IQR is truly integrated within the IntelePACS® workflow. All reviews are stored in a database from which reports may easily be created. IQR provides an effective way to analyze technicians’ performance and areas for improvement.
Communications module provides radiologists with an effective means of communicating with colleagues, particularly for radiologists working at different sites, without disrupting their workflow. Messages can be sent between radiologists in the same manner as an instant messenger.
